Abode

I've been looking for a place to live for a few weeks now. It's been pretty entertaining. Craigslist can be a hilariously wonderful tool. This is the posting of the day (click to enlarge):

Speaking of apartments, have you heard of 248 McKibben? Its one of 2 ridiculous hipster lofts in Williamsburg no, strike that - Bushwick that houses something like 300 people in "rooms" that are 25 square feet and start at $375/month. I'll admit, I don't know enough about the situation to judge, but in my opinion the owner of this building should be arrested. Honestly. These must be kids who think it's cool to live in squalor - like it makes them more of an artist to suffer. But they're paying for the cool factor - and it sounds like an atrocious hipster dorm. I mean, they have a myspace page. Or, okay - maybe it's actually really cool and some amazing art will come out of it. What do I know.

Unrelated, but neat from Travis' blog:
do a google image search for the month you were born and post the first picture. then do a search for the day you were born and post the first picture. then do a search for the year you were born and post the first picture. and post the little versions!

  1. i'm pretty sure something similar to that horrible artists tenement was actually shut down not too long ago. like, the owner was arrested and the tenants all kicked out. in bushwick of course. i can't find an article about what i'm thinking of, but i'm pretty sure i read about it last year sometime.

  2. I find it pretty hard to garner much sympathy for hipsters who choose to live like this. Maybe some amazing art will come out of it, more likely an amazing variety of social diseases.
